Dallas landed right behind two-time, top-placed New York City on PlanetOut Travel Awards’ best domestic destination this year.
Dallas was named a runner up along with such perennial contenders as Fort Lauderdale, San Francisco and West Hollywood. PlanetOut, which caters exclusively to a gay and lesbian travel audience, has been handing out the awards since 1994. This is the first year that Dallas has appeared on the list.
“Dallas is becoming more and more recognized as the GLBT destination of choice,” said Ross Crusemann, Sr. VP of Marketing for the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Earlier this year we were included in the top-10 places to live by The Advocate and now we are recognized as one of the best domestic tourism destinations. It’s good to see Dallas getting the recognition it deserves.”
“Sprawling, southern and resolutely Texan, Dallas takes cowboy class and mixes it with gay glitz for down-home yet urban sophistication,” according to the listing. It goes on to tout Dallas’ world-class dining, a vibrant nightlife and diverse gayborhoods that boast a large GLBT population, plus easy access by air via airlines such as American Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
Dallas is a destination that inspires big ideas and promises many memorable experiences. This richly diverse city is home to some of the best shopping and dining in America, one of the largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender populations and outstanding performing and visual arts in the largest urban arts district in the nation. Dallas is an authentic, sophisticated and distinctive getaway. For additional GLBT visitor information, please visit www.glbtdallas.com or www.visitdallas.com/diversity.
