The Beloved Natasha Richardson Parted

Natasha Richardson

May 11 1963 - March 18 2009

An epidural hematoma has taken the life of Richardson days after a blunt blow to her head caused by a skiing fumble at Quebec's Mont. Tremblant Ski Resort. Sources say it was ruled as an accident. Richardson was then rushed to a New York hospital, spending her last hours with her family of two boys, 12 & 13, and her second husband, Liam Neeson (after Robert Fox, whom she divorced in 1992).

Commonly, victims of the same type of accident are known in medical shorthand as "talk and die patients". The patient may feel fine and walk away but due to fractured skull, torn blood vessels and/or brain swelling, the unfortunate fate may be delayed hours to days; even weeks.

Born into an illustrious British dynasty of actors, Richardson was the eldest daughter of Oscar winning actress Vanessa Redgrave. She broke into the acting world with success from her role in Anton Chekhov's The Seagull after attending London's Central School of Speech and Drama. Later, Richardson starred in films such as, High Society (1987), Fat Man and Little Boy (1989), and other more recent films such as the remake of the film The Parent Trap (1998), and Maid in Manhattan (2002), and Nell with Jodie Foster-- The story of a girl whom doctors try to civilize after spending most of her life alone in the bush. Richardson also won a tony award for her 1998 portrayal of Sally Bowles in the Broadway musical Cabaret.

Richardson's talent is highly recognized and regarded in our community, and she will be greatly missed.

INDIANA Lesbian student fights for her right to party.... In a tux!

LEBANON, Indiana -
Formerly there existed a policy for the Lebanon school district which barred females from wearing a tuxedo to their school proms. The policy has been re-evaluated in order to allow a 17-year old student to wear a tux to her prom.
The female student filed a lawsuit during the ides of march '09. Court filings conclude that the unidentified girl is lesbian and that wearing a dress to her prom forces her to represent a sexual identity in which she rejects.
The vote took place today for the schoolboard to make a final decision. The board's superintendant Rob Taylor has stated that formal attire is requird to attend the prom, although the dress code requirments will not be 'gender-based'. Sources say that the girl is please with the success of her case and will be happy to attend her prom in April dressed in a tux.

Flatter Rather Than Fatter

GEARING IT UP FOR SUMMER

Need a quick way to get rid of that winter blanket? Here are a few tips on how to loose that extra bitta' somthin' you may have 'collected' over the long winter months...

As we get older, we tend to concentrate less on exercising, and keeping slim than we do on delicious cuisine and between meal munchies. Everyone loves a good meal at their favourite restaurant, and can't seem to find that extra ten minutes in the morning before work to prepare a low-cal lunch. You could spend two hours of your life rigorously exercising to burn off a measly 300 calories, or you could spend five minutes eating that delicious dessert on the front page of your lunch menu only to suck back twice the amount!

Try some of these tidbits of advice and write in to let us know how you're doing

Before you even notice, the amount of calories you can SAVE will make your waistline smaller and your hips VANISH!

As Far As Breakfast is Concerned:

- Instead of a cappuccino, try some espresso!
- Try an omelet with 4 egg whites instead of 2 whole eggs
- On your bagel, try the non-fat cream cheese
- Throw out the Jams and marmalade and try something more real like home made or market fresh fruit spreads
- Eat more oatmeal! It holds you over longer and naturally lowers your cholesterol
- Buy milk with a lower fat count; (instead of homogenized, try 2% and so on) that way you're not drinking directly from the udder!

Lunch Time:
- Instead of mayo, try some extra mustard
- Make it turkey instead of beef
-Forget the cream-of soups..try something with more variety like minestrone!
- home made KD!? Just cut out half of the butter the taste will stay the same but the guilt will be gone
- Downsize your soda! Or drink juice
- Believe it or not, those fries at Wendy's have less calories than a baked potato
- Instead of Chips, Try Pretzels!

- if you want to slip and have the juicy burger from your favourite fast- food joint, at least get salad instead of french fries!

Happy Eating! Enjoy our helpful tips to get you on your way to a flatter stomache with less stress

Bill Does It For The 11th Time!

The 11th Annual Prostate Cancer Benefit

He's hit it off again! Way to go Bill and team! Many people spent endless hours preparing for this eleventh celebration which was a great success!

This year's Gatsby theme brought out the creative sides in many of Calgary's movers & shakers for the January 23rd gala raising over $535, 000 toward the battle against prostate cancer.

Fundraising dollars were generated through sponsorship support, ticket sales and silent auction donations. This year's total also includes matching funds of $250,000 from the Rockyview Development Council. "I am positively thrilled-Calgarians and Calgary companies stepped up like never before, despite the economic turndown," said Bill Brooks, Honorary Chair of the Benefit. In its eleventh year, the Benefit has raised over $3.3 million for prostate cancer treatment, education and research in southern Alberta. All funds raised go directly toward the Southern Alberta Institute of Urology-a $28 million centre for excellence that will be the largest and most comprehensive urology centre in Canada. "We are deeply touched by the generous support given to the cause this year and very impressed how everyone reached so deep into their pockets at a time when cash is at a premium," said Larry Clausen, Chairman of the Benefit. "To every supporter we simply say: thank you." The annual Bill Brooks Prostate Cancer Benefit was created by Calgary media personality Bill Brooks after his uncle died of the disease 20 years ago. It is entirely run by a volunteer committee with the constant support of the Calgary Health Trust. The Benefit is one of the Trust's annual Partnership events.

"Our continued success in the fight against prostate cancer is due in large part to the Calgary Health Trust," said Clausen. "This is a long-term relationship that we highly regard and cherish, and the Trust is one of the most important philanthropic organizations in this city."

The twelfth annual Bill Brooks Prostate Cancer Benefit is already set to be on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the Hotel Arts.
