Stagewest Calgary - Alberta - Rockin' Good Time at British Invasion!

Take a trip through musical history with Stagewest Calgary's latest production, British Invasion! Written By Howard Pechet and Nevin Grant, this ensemble musical trip down memory lane features former lead-singer of The Guess Who, Terry Hatty; Season 3 Canadian Idol Winner, Melissa O'Neil; and local favourite Gerrad Everard.

Back by popular demand, the original BRITISH INVASION has been pulled out from the Stage West vault. In 1962, we were all twisting and shouting to the sound of “Run Around Sue”, listening to the Beach Boys and dreaming of California. Two years later, four mop-haired boys from Liverpool landed in America and changed the landscape forever. Although the BEATLES may have led the invasion, the army was comprised of hundreds of foot soldiers… The Stones, Chad and Jeremy, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cliff Richard, Petula Clark, Lulu, Dusty Springfield, and later Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, Elton John, Annie Lennox and many more. Let us take you on a magical mystery tour as we relive…again… the BRITISH INVASION.

This thoroughly entertaining production features strong vocals from the entire cast and spot-on costume changes that really evoke each period and artist. Melissa O'Neil brings a seductive quality to each tribute, and manages to infuse a bit of her own vocal styling with each number. Terry Hatty can still wow a crowd with his strong vocals and ability to play to the audience. The rest of the cast seemed well suited to their strengths and genuinely had fun with the numbers, especially crowd favorite Gerrad Everard. With a great selection of songs, and backed enthusiastically by a live band, this is one show that should not be missed!

British Invasion! is playing from Nov. 5, 2009 - Jan. 24, 2010, so don't miss your chance to groove again to your favorite music from right out of Britain! For more information on Stagewest Calgary, the full menu of their delicious buffet, and to make reservations, head to www.stagewestcalgary.com

Oprah - End of an Era

Oprah Winfrey came from humble beginnings and, over the years, built an empire that placed her as a figure that many hold near and dear. Her story is one that is full of triumphs, and come September 2011, she closes a chapter in her life by airing her final episode and saying good bye to The Oprah Winfrey show. Though certain never to fade from the spotlight, it is her past 25 years on the air that have provided indelible moments in TV history and earned her the title of the Queen of Daytime. Oprah is a friend to all, including the LGBT community, and for all her efforts thus far, we salute her and wish her further success... now possibly in the political arena. Stayed tuned, as we are sure to hear much more from Oprah in the coming years.
